Work progresses on industrial building in Madison Heights [Video]

The spring season is bringing much progress for a new 45,000-square-foot building the Economic Development Authority of Amherst County is constructing with flexible spaces for one to four light industrial businesses to locate within the Amelon Commerce Center.

Construction on the $7.8 million industrial building is moving along nicely with a goal for completion this fall, said Victoria Hanson, the EDA’s executive director. The project is funded with a grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration, along with EDA matching funds, to provide operational space that will accelerate job growth and create additional economic opportunities.

“It is the very first time we have been able to fill a really important need,” Hanson said in an interview next to the new building taking shape in the Madison Heights commerce center. …
