A new encampment supporting the Palestinian people has started on the University of Kansas campus.Part of a national trend at colleges, the new encampment comes as Israel and Hamas are engaged in an ongoing conflict in Gaza after Hamas attacked, killed, and kidnapped Israeli citizens in October.The demonstrators claim Israel’s response amounts to genocide.”Over 30,000 innocent civilians have been killed by the missiles created in United States territory,” said a woman who only wanted to be identified as Jen.Many demonstrators covered their faces, including Jen, who said she did it as a safety precaution.The group, which calls itself “The University of Kansas Palestine Solidarity Encampment,” sent a demand letter to KU administrators.The first demand calls for “a complete and total divestment of financial ties from all Israeli government and military interests and holdings.”However, the letter doesn’t cite any specific university investments.”We’re demanding transparency on all of their investments and donations …
