NH lawmakers look for ways to extend life of 603 area code [Video]

New Hampshire lawmakers heard testimony Tuesday on a bill that would try to protect the 603 area code.Phone companies have been warning that the Granite State is running out of numbers and might have to add an additional area code.The bill being considered in the Senate would direct the state’s energy department to do everything it can legally do to promote and adopt what is being called telephone number conservation methods to extend the life of the 603-only area code in New Hampshire.The methods include things like doing a full inventory of all the phone numbers in the state and making sure blocks of numbers that are not being used are made available again.Much of it would be behind-the-scenes work by the Department of Energy and the phone companies, but those testifying Tuesday said the efforts could have big impacts.Many of those testifying said their brands rely heavily on the …
