First woman set to head the Anchorage Police Department | Homepage [Video]

Anchorage has a new police chief. On Tuesday, Mayor Dave Bronson announced that the current chief is set to retire and is being replaced by a woman.

Bianca Cross is the name of the Anchorage Police Department’s chief designee. Once approved by the assembly she would be the first woman to head the Anchorage Police Department.

Police Chief designee Bianca Cross has over 26 years of experience with the department and looks forward to expanding on that experience with her new role.

“The department will work its way through things. Obviously, some issues are going to come up. We have issues with homelessness and crime in the city. So we’ll stick with the basics initially and then we will work our way through and find a plan for everything else,” she shared.

The shift in command seemed a little too coincidental with the imminent runoff election.
