Cass County Sheriff announces retirement from department [Video]

He started out as a Cass County Deputy, then served as Supervisor of the Dispatch Center. Then he became Undersheriff for 13 years. 

For more than 8 years, he’s served as the sheriff. 

After talking with his family, he said it was time to begin another chapter in his life. 

Behnke said it’s been an honor and a privilege to work with many talented and dedicated people during his career. 

Sheriff Behnke won’t seek reelection and a third term as the county’s law enforcement leader. 

He doesn’t have any plans as to what’s next, but did share he will continue living in Cass County. He said he wants to serve his community in some fashion. 

So far, there are three Republican candidates running for sheriff: Jeff Glaser, Stephen Harman and Clint Roach.
