Alabaster cracking down on vandalism at city parks [Video]

ALABASTER, Ala. (WBRC) – The city of Alabaster is cracking down on vandals that are tearing up and doing extensive damage to parks around the city.

City leaders say if this continues, they will not only prosecute these cases, but they’ll be forced to start locking up the bathrooms when staff aren’t there.

Alabaster parks director Tim Hamm said this issue is becoming more common and has started to grow in the last year.

Each month they are dealing with something new like a fire being set, sinks being damaged, and graffiti painted all over the walls. “It’s really frustrating for me and my team and then we are forced to think about things. So, we close these bathrooms when we are not on site,” Hamm said.

That’s something Hamm said they don’t want to do, but they are considering it if things get worse.
