After Vermont voters reject dozens of school budgets, districts go back to the drawing board [Video]

One week after Town Meeting Day, some communities in Vermont are grappling with residents’ decision to reject their proposed school budgets.According to the Vermont Superintendents Association, nearly 1/3 of all Vermont school budgets were rejected on Town Meeting Day. In the Mountain Views Supervisory Union, their budget did pass, but funds for a new middle and high school did not.“We are incredibly appreciative of their supporting our budget,” said Sherry Sousa, the superintendent of Mountain Views Supervisory Union. “There was an increase, and even with that increase, we did have strong support for the budget that we presented to our communities.”Even with the $99 million bond not approved, the superintendent is pleased with the strong voter turnout and said that her communities agree their aging building needs to be replaced.“Was it the number?” the Sousa mused. “I think it was, whether it was $99 million or less, it really still …
