YWCA of Greater Flint holds Denim Day to help victims of sexual assault | News [Video]

FLINT, Mich. (WJRT) – April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month — a time when organizations and survivors come together to raise awareness and promote the *prevention of sexual assault.

The YWCA of Greater Flint facilitated “Denim Day” on Wednesday, all in an effort to collect donations to support the services it provides to sexual assault victims.

Individuals and business are invited to wear denim and collect donations to support the programming the YWCA offers to sexual assault victims.

Services include 1:1 advocacy, rape kit examinations and support groups.

In 2023, the YWCA provided 195 rape kit examinations.

Local organizations participating in Denim Day including ClearView Building Maintenance, Dort Financial Credit Union Branches, Little Joe’s Grand Blanc, Grand Blanc Township Police, Kettering University, UM-Flint School of Nursing and more.

Sexual violence continues to be an issue in the United States and Genesee County.
