NEW YORK (Gray News) – The community is stepping up to help support the family and loved ones of an officer who was killed in a shooting Monday night.
New York Police Department Officer Jonathan Diller, 31, was shot and killed during a traffic stop, according to the city’s mayor.
“We lost one of our sons today and it is extremely painful,” Mayor Eric Adams said while addressing reporters at the hospital that evening.
According to multiple reports, the shooting happened in the Far Rockaway section of Queens.
Diller and his partner encountered a vehicle illegally parked at a bus stop. As they approached the vehicle, a man inside shot Diller below his bullet-proof vest.
Police Commissioner Edward Caban shared that Diller was brought to an area hospital, but he could not be saved.
