Green Party presidential candidate Dr. Jill Stein was in Columbia on Sunday following her arrest in St. Louis at a pro-Palestine protest at the Washington University Campus, on Saturday.

Stein said she is now facing assault charges after spending several hours in jail.

“It’s like these are riot police who are coming in to create a riot. This was a very peaceful community-based event going on,” she said. “Bike handles were being rammed into us and they were trying to push us backward to fall onto our backs.”

Stein said she was asked to attend by a student and went to show her support. Protestors were calling for an end to the war in Gaza and for the university to divest money from Boeing.

“Specifically to hold the administration accountable because right now the administration of the university has contracts with a war contractor,” Stein said.
