SYLACAUGA, Ala. (WBRC) – Sylacauga Police Chief Kelley Johnson is retiring at the end of this month. After a 30-year career of service, Chief Johnson says the timing is right.
A person that left the job a little better than when he started, that’s how Kelley Johnson wants people to remember his time as police chief of Sylacauga.
“I’ve done the job long enough I think. I think it’s time to retire. Let somebody else have the reins for a while. So I turned in my notice about sixty days ago and I’m ready to go,” says Johnson.
A career that began in 1994 in Coosa County with the sheriff’s department before going to the police academy. Chief Johnson studied criminal justice at Auburn-Montgomery, and eventually made his way to Sylacauga in 2003 while climbing the ranks within the department.
