INDIANAPOLIS — Meal delivery kits have been around for years, cashing in on convenience for customers.
“All the trend reports show that this is a market that’s on the rise,” said Kelley Wight, assistant professor of marketing for Indiana University. “This is something that families are looking more and more towards.”
Wight said a big draw is the benefit of having weekly recipes shipped to your door. Companies, like Hello Fresh, create customized plans based on your household’s needs — from the amount of servings, to the number of meals and even specific recipes.
Besides the element of saving time, Wight said meal kits bring a constant of sustainability from pre-portioned ingredients to pre-determined pricing, which can be enticing given the impact of inflation.
“If you are just a single-person household, it’s really hard to shop and have good meals that reduce food waste,” Wight said. “Also, as families, it’s …
