Qualcomm (QCOM) on Wednesday announced the upcoming release of its Snapdragon X Plus laptop processor with artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities, in a move that could help it better compete with rivals.
Qualcomm said its Snapdragon X Plus, which will enable on-device AI applications, “delivers up to 37% faster CPU performance compared to competitors, while consuming up to 54% less power.”
The chip is the latest addition to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X series, which includes the Snapdragon X Elite built for generative AI that Qualcomm announced last fall.
While not Qualcomm’s first laptop processors, their rollout could reportedly mark the first time Qualcomm’s chips could challenge the likes of Intel (INTC) and AMD (AMD) in speed, with the Snapdragon X series claimed to outperform Intel’s Core i7, AMD’s Ryzen 9 7940HS, and Apple’s (AAPL) M2 chips.
