On Her Mind: More women backing off birth control, tracking cycles instead | News [Video]

TULSA, Okla. — More women are backing off birth control, ditching the pill and choosing to track their monthly cycles to prevent pregnancy. 

If you search birth control on social media, you’ll find TikTok videos and Instagram influencers blaming the pill for weight gain, mood swings and infertility. 

I spoke with a local doctor and a Tulsa woman who is now tracking her cycle, to learn more about this trend. 

“With any medication there are side effects,” said Dr. Corey Babb with the Haven Center for Sexual Medicine and Vulvovaginal Disorders. 

Some side effects might include weight gain or migraines. 

“Because I had been on it since I was 14, I had no idea the weight I was carrying was related to my birth control,” said Emily Heinz, a Tulsa woman who tracks her monthly cycle.
