North Charleston police chief announces retirement [Video]

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – Less than one year on the job, North Charleston’s police chief announced he was stepping down from the position.

Greg Gomes was sworn in on April 28, 2023, replacing long-serving chief Reggie Burgess who stepped down to run for and eventually become North Charleston mayor.

A letter sent by Gomes said he was retiring from the position effective June 30.

“For the last 30 years, this police department and city have been a huge part of my life,” Gomes said. “I am forever grateful for the opportunity to serve with some of the absolute best law enforcement professionals in the country.”
