Motorcycle Awareness Month of May: Boise safety event, group ride [Video]

BOISE, Idaho — May is Motorcycle Awareness Month – so, to promote cycle safety for both riders and fellow four-wheel commuters on the road, several businesses and organizations partnered up for a Treasure Valley motorcycle rally.

Wednesday’s motorcycle safety event in Boise featured riders of all experience levels, including an Idaho State Police (ISP) motorcycle trooper, who discussed best safety practices and answer questions about motorcycle riding.

May was dubbed the moto month because the warmer weather and longer nights provide riders and drivers optimal conditions to get behind the handlebars. Subsequently, it’s also when the most motorcycle fatalities occur.

Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) said that in 2022, there were 529 motorcycle-related crashes, of which, 29 resulted in the death of the motorcyclist. Most of those fatalities occurred in the months of June, July and …
