A major youth crime crackdown could come into effect in NSW after the state government revealed a proposed overhaul of NSW bail laws.

The new laws would make it much harder for teenagers to be granted bail.

The legislation would also criminalise boasting about offences on social media.

About $26 million will also be spent on initiatives to address youth crime.

NSW Police Minister Yasmin Catley said the changes will crack down on teenagers in the state who are “posting and boasting” about crimes.

“In addition to that, we’ll be having an accommodation service with wrap-around services such as drug and alcohol and mental health and other social services … and we’ll be providing some other prime crime-prevention mechanisms right across NSW,” she told Sunrise.

“We actually have to make sure that we get these kids out of the justice system.
