LPS suspends student lunch debt collection, will review proposed changes [Video]

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Lincoln Public Schools has announced the suspension of its school lunch debt collection policy and procedures, effective Wednesday, February 21.

In a press release from the district, they state that they will temporarily halt referring additional families to collections and will “recall current accounts with the collection agency.”

“In addition, the Foundation for Lincoln Public Schools will continue to work with LPS Nutrition Services to use donations designated for meal debt to address delinquent accounts,” the school district stated.

A proposal to revise the district-wide student lunch debt system will be considered at the Lincoln Board of Education’s February 27 meeting, following a bill introduced in the legislature this session.
