Lost pet awareness tips can be vital in helping you in a lost pet situation [Video]

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – Monday, April 22 is Lost Dog Awareness Day, and the Humane Society of the Black Hills has tips on what you can do if you ever find yourself in a lost pet situation.

Jerry Steinley with the Humane Society says the easiest way to keep track of your pet is to keep them on a leash, or in a fenced-in backyard. If you lose your animal the next steps are to check the microchip, call your local animal shelters, or turn to social media for help in helping you locate the dog.

If you notice an unknown pet in your area, the best thing to do is to try not to approach or corral the animal. Instead call your local animal shelter or animal control to help with the situation, once they get to the shelter they can be scanned for a microchip, making it …
