I-91 southbound construction could be a boon for local businesses [Video]

As of Wednesday morning, starting at Exit 16, Interstate 91 will be closed to southbound traffic due to ongoing construction work. Motor vehicles can get back on the interstate in Fairlee at Exit 15.Businesses like Chapman’s General in Fairlee on Main Street expect to see many of the estimated 4,500 additional cars stop into the store while construction is underway in a potential boon to local businesses.“It’s wonderful. It’s a small town, so every little bit of foot traffic makes it all the better,” said Meagan Zubkoff, the assistant manager of the store. “So, having people drive through, see this store maybe on their way to work… they know that we’re here. Hopefully… they’ll come back.”Vermont’s Agency of Transportation said the closure is for the ongoing ledge stabilization project at the bend around mile marker 92.
