GRANT COUNTY, Ind. — The Grant County Sheriff’s Office has unveiled a brand-new multi-purpose vehicle that it says will help deputies remain safe while responding to dangerous situations.
GCSO said in a release Wednesday afternoon that the vehicle, also known as mine-resistant ambush protection (MRAP), was acquired through the Law Enforcement Support Office program. The vehicle is valued at $689,000.
The vehicle initially came into GCSO’s possession last fall before it was sent to a company specializing in modifying law enforcement vehicles. GCSO said the changes included alterations to the vehicle’s paint, decals, lights and siren.
The vehicle is also equipped with a 360-degree camera system, a master water stream for firefighting and a breaching device.
The vehicle is capable of traversing deep water during flooding and other types of severe weather, such as driving through debris following a tornado. Deputies can also utilize the vehicle when responding to potentially …
