Funeral being held for retired Georgetown Co. Fire Marshall [Video]

GEORGETOWN, S.C. (WCSC) – Retired Georgetown County Fire Marshall Harry Junior Avant will be laid to rest Sunday afternoon after his death at the age of 72.

Avant died Friday at Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital.

He was well known and loved in his community, where he was known not only for his 27 years of service with the Georgetown County Fire Department, but also for his service as a deacon to Mount Tabor Baptist Church.

In his obituary from Young Funeral Home, Avant is said to have been “courageous in his service, passionate about his community, and thoughtful in his every action,” and someone who would “be remembered as a man who not only lived life fully but also enriched the lives of everyone he encountered.”

“His warm smile, generous spirit, and unwavering integrity have left an indelible mark on the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.”
