A former East Liverpool police officer will be sending time behind bars for sending inappropriate messages to a student.
Former officer Shawn Long was sentenced to 89 days in jail plus community service and fines and is not allowed to go to bars or be on social media. No date has been set for his jail time to begin.
Long pled guilty to one count of Disseminating Matter Harmful to Juveniles back in December of 2023.
The charge stems from an incident that occurred during Long’s time as a resource officer for East Liverpool City Schools. According to an indictment, Long had sent a 17-year-old student inappropriate messages back in March of 2020.
Long was placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation and remained there until he resigned in 2021.
