First-time homebuyers in California get most mortgage offers [Video]

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — People buying a home for the first time received the most mortgage offers last year, according to the online loan marketplace LendingTree.com.

A recent analysis of mortgage offers given to users of the platform between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31 of last year found that 65% of them went to first-time homebuyers nationwide. The highest shares went to people in California, New York and New Jersey.

Data showed 73.2% of mortgage offers were given to first-time homebuyers in California. LendingTree said those buying a home for the first time in the state made an average down payment of $59,904 and received an average loan amount offer of $459,746.

A monthly mortgage payment in San Diego is approximately $5,757 with a 10% down payment, according to Zillow. San Diego is also one of the top most expensive metropolitan areas in the U.S. to comfortably buy a home.
