FLINT, Mich. (WJRT)- A man who served at least two generations of GM workers in Flint will be memorialized this Saturday at UAW Local 659.
“Uncle Fred” Khirfan was a constant presence in the lives of Flint Assembly employees, helping young workers learn to budget and offer advice and guidance to anyone who asked.
Although he passed in October, his family has arranged the Saturday service to let all those people say goodbye.
“I don’t have a drop of his blood in me,” said GM worker Darius Mayfield. “But he was that uncle/dad, and the advice, the love.”
He said he has fond memories of Fayez Khirfan, former owner of the Blue Collar and Super K convenience stores.
Khirfan would joke and give him advice as a young man and jokingly nicknamed him …
