CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – The executive director of a non-profit organization benefitting veterans was arrested on felony tax charges.

Terri Lynette Howard, of Lancaster, S.C., was arrested Thursday on charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue.

Howard was the executive director of A Place For Heroes, which was based in Charlotte. According to the organization’s social media page, the goal of A Places For Heroes was, “Providing residential & critical support resources for veterans to stabilize their personal lives, professional networks, and services in our community.”

She was charged with two counts of obtaining property by false pretenses after allegedly getting a sales tax refund of approximately $217,817.44 from the NCDOR by filing fraudulent Forms E-585, North Carolina Individual Non-Profit Sales Tax Refund Claims from July 1 through Dec. 31, 2018, and Jan. 1 through June 30, 2019.
