Crunchyroll Is Bringing Japanese Hit ‘Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle’ To U.S. Theaters [Video]

Japan’s biggest theatrical release of 2024 to date, the volleyball drama Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle, is headed for global release through Crunchyroll, which has picked up North American and select international theatrical rights.

Based on the Haikyu!! manga, which is one of the bestselling Japanese comic series of the 2010s, the new feature will launch through Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment in North American theaters on May 31, in both subtitled and English-dub versions.

Additional international theatrical rollouts include:

• May 30: Australia, New Zealand, Denmark, Italy, Netherlands, and Switzerland (Italian)
• May 31: Canada, Finland, Ireland, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom
• June 12: Belgium, France, Luxembourg, Switzerland (French)
• June 25: Austria, Germany
• June 27: Switzerland (German)

When the film debuted in Japan in February, it had the sixth-biggest opening weekend in that market’s box office history, and has grossed over $60 million to date in its home market.
