“He just wanted a place in Charlottesville where he could play with his friends,” says Kara McClurken, Bennett’s mother and co-founder of Bennett’s Village.

Ground breaks at Pen Park for a brand-new playground, but not just any playground.

“Our accessible tree house, which is the first part of our larger vision to build a multigenerational, all-abilities play space here at Pen Park.”

Bennett’s mother, Kara McClurken, cofounder of Bennett’s Village, and a team have been working to build an all-abilities play space in Charlottesville.

In 2018, 5-year-old Bennett passed away after battling a type of spinal muscular atrophy.

“So, the fact that we are making his dreams come true is really, really beautiful,” says McClurken.
