AMHERST, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – Construction of the new Fort River Elementary School in Amherst is set to begin early next month.
Residents in Amherst voted overwhelmingly in favor of a ballot measure that would tear down Fort River Elementary for a brand new $97 million dollar school back in May of last year.
Gagliarducci Construction of Springfield will complete this first phase of construction by preparing the site with fencing, erosion control, and stormwater management. A second phase of construction is set to begin in June.
The new building is expected to open before the 2026 school year. The new building will also combine students from Wildwood Elementary.
