While Mayor Patrick Brown says the city won’t be held “hostage” by some 1,200 striking municipal workers, the job action has led to disruptions on transit and several other departments.
“CUPE will not hold our City hostage,” Brown said of the strike in a post on social media.
He says the city offered the union representing over 1,000 Brampton city workers “a fair, multi-year deal identical to the Mississauga agreement.”
But the union says the city is “refusing to negotiate fair wages” and offered deals “that will erase the hard-fought gains made by our members.”
