Virginia Cannabis Control Authority will track cannabis for medical use from seed to sale [Video]

RICHMOND, Va. — The Virginia Cannabis Control Authority (CCA) announced Wednesday that starting in early summer of 2025, the vendor Metrc will track cannabis growth, production and sale for medical and pharmaceutical use. The system will be required of all medical cannabis pharmaceutical processors in Virginia.

The goal of the new program is to ensure “consumer protection, enforcement and transparency,” the agency said. The system will allow the CCA to “manage product recalls, prevent cannabis from being diverted outside the regulated system, and block untested, illicit cannabis from entering the market.” It also will offer real time data that will help to guide regulatory decisions and public health education.
