In an exciting development for kids who want to boost their grades without sacrificing their precious screen time, the University of Southern California is one of several top-tier universities offering new classes on how to become a social media influencer.
“I think a lot of young people have dreams, and I think this is just a dream du jour,” Freddy Tran Nager, associate director of USC’s masters in digital social media program, told KNX News’ Emily Valdez.
Nager said the university’s influencer course doesn’t teach students how to be popular, per se – it’s about how to persuade others.
“Interesting enough, in my classroom, I don’t allow them to use technology,” he said. “They have to use a good old-fashioned pen and a piece of dead wood, as I call it, so that way they get more in touch with the class and the students around them.”
