TULSA, Okla. — Tulsa Veterans of Foreign Wars hosted their annual Flag Retirement Ceremony on Friday.
In honor of Flag Day, over 5,000 flags were retired here at the Tulsa VFW 577 Flag Retirement Ceremony.
The ceremony is held every year on Flag Day with the help of boy scouts.
Life Scout J.P. Morton has a special connection to the ceremony this year.
He’s been retiring flags for six years with the partnership between VFW and The Boy Scouts of America. He did his Eagle Scout Project on improving the area around the pit they use to retire flags.
“Being out here every year and doing this and seeing what improvement could be made and wanting to do that for an organization that gave to me,” Morton said.
That’s why Morton decided to add a concrete slab as a walkway to the fire pit for his Eagle Scout Project.
