Tulane says water main break could impact buildings on Broadway [Video]

Hurricane Francine caused widespread power outages and flooding across Southeast Louisiana. As crews continue to assess damage, some schools are announcing closures for Friday, Sept. 13. The following schools have announced closures: Lafourche Parish: CLOSEDAll Lafourche Parish schools will remain closed on Friday, Sept. 13. Terrebonne Parish: CLOSEDDue to extensive power outages and conditions throughout our community, all schools and offices will be closed tomorrow, Friday, Sept. 13, 2024.St. Tammany Parish: OPENAll St. Tammany Parish Schools will reopen Friday, Sept. 13. Northshore Kids Academy in Slidell will reopen Friday, September 13th.Jefferson Parish: CLOSEDAll Jefferson Parish Public Schools are closed Friday, Sept. 13.Jefferson RISE Charter School will be closed on Friday 9/13 due to the continued power outages. We will reopen on Monday 9/16.Plaquemines Parish: OPENSchools and offices will reopen tomorrow, Friday, September 13th, with the exception of BCMS, which will have a virtual learning day due to roof damage. St. Bernard Parish: OPENFollowing the departure of Hurricane Francine, the St. Bernard Parish Public School System spent the morning conducting a thorough evaluation of all schools and facilities to ensure their safety and readiness.All buildings are operational and ready for our students and staff to return, so we are happy to share that we will be reopening all St. Bernard Parish Public Schools and Facilities for Friday September 13th. In addition to power outages, building impacts, and staffing issues with bus companies, the city has asked residents to conserve water to prevent sewer backups. We encourage families to check with their individual schools for their reopening plans.St. Georges Episcopal School will be closed on Friday Hancock County: OPENSchool resumes, Friday, September 13.Washington Parish: OPENAlll Washington Parish Schools will reopen on Friday, Sept. 13. Tangipahoa Parish: OPENTangipahoa Parish Public Schools reopen on Friday, September 13.St. John Parish: CLOSEDAll SJBP Public Schools will remain closed on Friday, September 13,St. James Parish: CLOSEDSt. James Parish Schools and offices will remain closed on Friday, September 13.St. Charles Parish: OPENAll schools will open Friday except for Carver Elementary School. Catholic Schools: Today, we are grateful that our school leaders are able to safely assess their school sites for any damage. Our first priority is that our students return to school in a healthy and safe environment. Announcements about reopening will be site-based based on several factors, including power restoration, after consultation with the Department of Catholic Education and Faith Formation and civil authorities as necessary. Please be patient with our school leaders as they assess and work to mitigate any damage.
