If a surprise “coffee invite” pops up in your messages, don’t just steam ahead – let it percolate before you pour out a response.
With the seemingly never-ending stream of data breaches, scammers are now texting and sending social media messages with simple questions like – “did you see your picture on Facebook?” or “when are you free for coffee?”
While it seems like it could be coming from a friend, odds are it’s more likely a scammer. If you respond to these messages in any way, even if you simply tell them they have a wrong number, it allows scammers to know your number works.
Resist any temptation to respond to instant messages or strange numbers and never click on links in these messages which can lead to malware.
