Tesco Ireland sales increase 4.8% over Christmas [Video]

Tesco has reported a 4.8% increase in sales at its stores in the Republic of Ireland over the Christmas period.

The supermarket retailer said its market share increased 40 basis points to 23.6% for the three-month period to the start of December, marking its 34th consecutive period of gains.

The company saw annual sales growth of 4.2% in its third quarter, with online sales increasing 17.1%, driven by the launch of same-day delivery and click-and-collect services.

In the UK, Tesco marked its highest market share since 2016. The group increased its share 78bps to 28.5% in what was its 19th successive period of growth.

Tesco credited customers switching from full-line grocers, premium retailers and limited-range discounters in the lead-up to Christmas for the improvement.
