Sporting goods and outdoor recreation store coming to Dauphin County [Video]

Central Pennsylvania’s love of the outdoors and sports is attracting another brand to the region.

Academy Sports & Outdoors plans to open a store at the Paxton Towne Centre in Lower Paxton Township.

Township spokesman Jack Sherzer said Academy Sports submitted a building permit application and blueprints for the store at the former Weis Markets.

It’s located next to the Lidl, which opened earlier this summer.

Academy is a “leading full-line sporting goods and outdoor recreation retailer,” according to its website.

It carries outdoor apparel and equipment, women’s and men’s apparel, workout gear, fishing equipment and hunting optics and accessories. Clothing brands include Nike, adidas, L.L.Bean, Carhartt, YETI, Stanley, Marucci, Titleist, Shimano, Brooks, Blackstone and more.

The chain didn’t respond when reached for comment. The business was founded in 1938 in Texas and has grown to 285 stores in 19 states.
