Social media trends raise awareness on tween skincare [Video]

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – Social media has caused a skincare frenzy making tweens major consumers.

Children as young as 7 years old have begun dabbling in the world of skincare. Dermatologists are impressed at their initiative but say these skincare products could do more harm than good.

“But unfortunately, their skin is young that it’s not really ready for all of those products and in fact it can make some of their conditions worse and they can develop other irritations from it- rashes.” Dermatologist at Rapid City Medical Center Lycia Thornburg said.

The problem? Multi-step routines tweens have seen across TikTok by influencers. Causing them to layer unnecessary products on their face.

Some of these products just end up canceling each other out. Thornburg says less is more and consistency is key.
