RUTHERFRORD COUNTY, N.C. (FOX Carolina) – Rutherford County Emergency Management is addressing false reports circulating on social media about a situation in Chimney Rock.

According to emergency management, there was no “special meeting” held in Chimney Rock on Oct. 2 involving discussions of federal, state, or local governments seizing the town.

Officials went on to say that there are two confirmed storm-related fatalities and claims of “bodies everywhere” are unfounded.

Emergency management is urging everyone to rely on verified information from official sources as we work through this challenging time.

“False rumors not only cause unnecessary distress but also hinder our recovery efforts,” officials said.
