Reading Corps aids Riverview Elementary kids in Silver Lake [Video]

In its second year at Riverview Elementary, the AmeriCorps Reading Corps tutoring program served more then 30 students, with a goal of supporting even more starting this fall.

The AmeriCorps tutoring program places tutors in schools across Wisconsin to provide extra reading support.

“The district’s partnership with Reading Corps has had a tremendous impact on students, with measurable gains in reading achievement. By the end of the school year, 59% of students receiving Reading Corps services exceeded target growth,” said Kim Taylor, superintendent of Silver Lake School District. “Our students deserve all the support we can give them and our reading tutors help make that possible.”

During the 2023-24 academic year, tutors serving at Riverview School conducted approximately 67 sessions with each Reading Corps student, with tutors providing over 42,000 tutoring minutes throughout the school year.
