Prepare for high winds and flash flooding [Video]

SUMTER COUNTY, Ga. (WRBL) — Sumter County Emergency Management (EMA) is telling locals to stay prepared for Helene.

According to Sumter EMA Director and Fire Chief Jerry Harmon, Sumter County will be opening its Emergency Preparedness Center at 7 a.m. Sept. 26.

It will be using social media to push out notifications about windspeed, rain and other important information.

Harmon is asking locals to stay aware and tuned into notifications from the news and the Sumter County Emergency Management Facebook page, even through the night.

“We’re going to push this info as fast and as quickly as we can,” Harmon said.

He added there is potential locals will lose power and access to cable, so to stay tuned with a weather radio if possible and to keep phones charged.

Harmon said to stay inside if windspeeds are too high or if roads are overflowing.
