Olympic Medalist and WNY native Anita Alvarez to be celebrated by the Buffalo Bisons [Video]

The Bisons are honoring ‘Women in Sports’ during their Friday game.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — An Olympic medal is coming to Sahlen Field.

Silver Medalist and WNY native Anita Alvarez will throw one of the ceremonial first pitches for the Buffalo Bisons. She will join five other women as the Bison’s host ‘Women in Sports’ on Friday, August 23. 

It is part of the Herd’s initiative to celebrate women in Western New York working in sports.

  • Deb Cummins, Buffalo Bills Ticket Operations Manager
  • Juliana Prezelski, University at Buffalo Assistant Athletic Director for Football Operations
  • Jacey Brooks, University at Buffalo Women’s Basketball Associate Head Coach
  • Tiffany Swoffard, Canisius University Women’s Basketball Head Coach

Alvarez won Olympic silver with Team USA Artistic Swimming in August at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris. She was the first American to become a three-time Olympian in the sport.
