Nebraska Supreme Courts Chief Justice to retire [Video]

LINCOLN, Neb. (WOWT) – Mike Heavican, the chief justice of the Nebraska Supreme Court, said he will retire in the fall.

In his letter to Gov. Jim Pillen, Chief Justice Heavican said he will retire on Oct. 31 after 18 years of service.

“I am grateful to former Governor Dave Heineman for my initial appointment, and I am grateful that the citizens of Nebraska reaffirmed that appointment three times at the ballot box,” the chief justice said in his letter.

Heineman served as governor from 2005-2015.

The Judicial Nominating Commission is expected to announce an application deadline soon for the position, which is appointed by the governor.
