Murder suspect accused of 2021 Canal St. shooting in custody after removing ankle monitor [Video]

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – A suspect in a fatal Canal Street shooting in 2021 is back in custody the next day after removing an ankle monitor on Wednesday (July 24).

Khutbi Abdelkader, 27, was out on bond with an ankle monitor and accused of crimes in Orleans, Jefferson, and St. Tammany Parish. On Wednesday night, he removed his electronic monitor, prompting a search.

“We received an alert last night a little after 8 o’clock and went straight into our protocols,” said Matt Dennis with Asap Release monitoring.

Abdelkader was arrested for the second-degree murder of Anthony Francois in May 2021 outside his Canal Street vape store. He was released on a $350,000 bond and while out on bond, he falsely reported to the NOPD that he had been robbed at a Tulane Avenue convenience store.
