MLB News: Manager of NL’s Worst Team Gets Surprising Contract Extension [Video]

The Colorado Rockies have an interesting way of doing business.

Manager Bud Black has never led the team to a division title in eight seasons on the bench. His teams have one postseason victory, in the 2018 Wild Card game. The 2024 season marked the team’s third straight fifth-place finish in the National League West and their second straight year with the NL’s worst record (61-101).

Somewhat surprisingly, the Rockies announced they have extended Black’s contract for one year.

“While our recent results on the field did not meet expectations, we believe this team is heading in the right direction with the growth of very talented young players,” Rockies general manager Bill Schmidt said in a statement announcing the extension. “Our organization is committed to giving our fans the winning team that they deserve.
