Kent Co emergency management coordinator retires after 26.5 years [Video]

Kent County said in a Facebook post that Matt Groesser’s work “significantly shaped and enhanced” emergency management programs and services.

KENT COUNTY, Mich. — Kent County’s emergency management coordinator is retiring after 26.5 years of service, the county announced in a Facebook post on Saturday.

To honor Matt Groesser and his career, more than 50 coworkers, deputies, firefighters, family members and friends surprised him at his home with their vehicle lights flashing in tribute. 

When he arrived, everyone paused to listen as his final call was broadcast over all channels, where he expressed his appreciation. 

Groesser’s career began in dispatch and transitioned to emergency management, where the county said his dedication and leadership have been “invaluable.”

Kent County said his work “significantly shaped and enhanced” emergency management programs and services.
