Malls around the country are struggling, but one redeveloped mall site in Virginia Beach is hoping to breathe new life into their area—with a new purpose.
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Aviva Pembroke is a brand new senior living center in Virginia Beach, located in the heart of Pembroke Square.
On Thursday, community leaders in Virginia Beach officially cut the ribbon on the project. It’s a project that’s been under construction for two years.
Virginia Beach Mayor Bobby Dyer, who attended the ribbon cutting, emphasized the importance of new senior living in Virginia Beach.
Mayor Dyer said, “By 2030, predictions of over 20% of the population in Virginia Beach will be 65 and older.”
The Pembroke Square site means a lot to the Virginia Beach area, as it’s a redevelopment of the former Pembroke Mall, the 16th mall built in America.
