It’s not just our markets seeing a boost.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The stock market soared on Wednesday as election results came in. The stock market surged at one point over 1,500 points. The dollar strengthened and treasury prices fell.

Investor sentiment right now is pro-growth and pro-markets. But is all of this the Trump effect or have stocks risen before during elections?

Historically, the U.S. stock market tends to rise regardless of which party wins the White House.

Taking a look at the S&P 500, it has risen 70% since the 2020 election brought President Joe Biden into office.

According to Sam Stovall, chief investment strategist at research company CFRA, the S&P has since 1945 risen 73% of the years when a Democrat was president and 70% of the years when a Republican was president.

And it’s not just our markets seeing a boost. Wednesday, Australia’s S&P rose 0.08%. The value of the dollar in Japan also went up.
