Although the worst of the winds have passed and all severe weather warnings have been lifted, emergency services are still working to resolve 1000 active jobs.
SES crews received more than 4000 requests for assistance over the past 24 hours, majority for fallen trees and building damage.
CitiPower and Powercor Australia said they were working to restore power to the remaining 6,700 people who are without supply.
“Our crews are responding to more than 470 individual fault jobs, including over 100 fallen wires,” the company said on social media.
“They’re replacing power poles, rebuilding fallen powerlines and repairing other electrical infrastructure damaged by trees, branches and other debris. We have deployed extra crews and have cancelled planned outages to allow us to focus on restoration work.”
Meanwhile, AusNet is working to restore power to about 38,400 customers.
