Charlotte tumbles on list of best-performing cities WSOC TV [Video]

CHARLOTTE — After jumping into the top 10 last year on a well-known ranking of top-performing metros for economic growth, Charlotte slid back behind several markets in the Carolinas for 2025.

The Milken Institute on Tuesday released its 2025 Best-Performing Cities: Mapping Economic Growth across the U.S. report, with Charlotte landing at No. 24 among large metros in the index. Charlotte placed at No. 10 in 2024 — its best spot since the Milken Institute began tracking the rankings in 2012.

Charlotte’s rank this year marks its worst showing since 2022, when it came in at No. 31. The Charlotte metro, however, has seen marked improvement since ranking at No. 114 in 2011. In the years that’ve followed, Charlotte’s lowest performance was No. 35 (in 2012).
